The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) has a great line up planned for this year’s 32nd Annual Regional Mining Conference. This year’s conference will be held October 11th – 12th at the RP Funding Center FKA (The Lakeland Center).
Festivities start Tuesday, October 10th with SME’s 11th Annual Golf Extravaganza held at the Eaglebrooke Golf Course. Pickett will be there ready to hit the greens after an 11:30 lunch . Money raised from this event and the conference will be used for public education about the role mining plays in our society, including; science education projects and science fair awards, academic scholarships, and “Mining Rocks” educational materials for elementary students.
Conference exhibits open 7:30 am Wednesday, October 11th in Sikes Hall, and the general session begins Wednesday morning at 8:00 with topics covering community relations, regulatory updates and minerals applications. Technical sessions follow on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, with presentations on: Geology; Exploration & Mine Planning; Mining; Analytical Evaluation & Regulatory Rulemaking; Mineral Processing; Environmental Health & Safety; Chemical Processing; Reclamation; Public Relations and Innovations in Technology.
This year’s theme is “Mining: It’s for Everyone” as nearly everything we use in our daily lives is made up from mined materials. And, we mean everything; from paints to the metals in cell phones, toothpaste to laundry detergent, and from building materials to the button on your jeans. Even the foods we eat have been grown in phosphate-enriched soils. Not everyone is aware of this, and that is why public education is so very important.
Pickett’s own Erik Hickman is this year’s conference chair. We are proud to say we’ve been a major sponsor of this event for more than 20 years now. Come visit us at booth #48. We look forward to seeing you. For more information about this event or our services send us an email at info@PickettUSA.com.
